EXPED’s journey began with the extraordinary experience of Swiss adventurers Heidi and Andi Brun. In 1981, they spent nine months living deep in the northern Canadian wilderness, surviving a harsh winter in a log cabin they built by hand. Relying on hunting, fishing, and foraging, they lived in harmony with nature, guided by self-reliance and simplicity.
This immersive, off-grid lifestyle sparked a passion for creating functional gear that supports freedom and resilience in the outdoors. That passion led to the birth of EXPED—an outdoor equipment brand rooted in real-world adventure.
From day one, minimising environmental impact has been central to EXPED’s philosophy. We rigorously evaluate materials and processes to strike the ideal balance between sustainability and performance. By prioritising durable, high-quality components and eco-friendly production, we ensure our gear lasts longer and conserves resources.

La Sportiva
In the 1920s, deep in the heart of the Italian Dolomites, Narciso Delladio began handcrafting wooden clogs and leather boots for the farmers and lumberjacks of the Fassa and Fiemme valleys. As the world changed, so did his craft. During World War II, Narciso turned his focus to designing custom mountain boots, introducing a patented lacing system that would go on to influence the entire Italian footwear industry.
More than 90 years later, La Sportiva remains a family-owned company. With a legacy built on craftsmanship and a relentless drive to innovate, La Sportiva stands at the pinnacle of technical climbing, hiking, and mountain footwear.

When Frederick Ellis Brigham first opened his shop in 1933 in Harpurhey, Manchester, he probably had little idea that outdoor sports would experience the explosion in popularity that it has today. He was a visionary, establishing the shop as the place to go for those who wanted their boots expertly made and fitted. Growing the business from bootmaker to outdoor retailer, Fred focussed on stocking top-quality kit to help his customers get the most from their time in the hills.
Over 90 years on and Ellis Brigham is still going strong, passionately driven and proudly family owned. Across the UK, they have fantastic shops led by friendly and knowledgeable staff who understand your needs because they love the outdoors too. You can expect the best brands and latest innovations, gear that will make your time spent outside even better.

Alpkit is founded on friendship, a love of adventure and a deep frustration at the high cost of top-end gear. Our innovative business is the UK’s only direct-to-consumer performance brand for those that run, hike, climb, camp, swim and bike. Now with over 200 staff, Alpkit has grown by almost 50% per annum compound over the last decade. It started online in 2004 and has opened 10 stores in the last six years from Bristol and Kingston-upon-Thames in the south to Inverness in the North. Carbon neutral, a living wage foundation employer and Certified B Corp, we gives 10% of profit and 1% of all sales to direct action grass roots projects that help people get outside through Alpkit Foundation, its independent charity. Fell Brewery
We’re a small independent brewery from South Cumbria. From our home on the Cartmel Peninsula, we embrace an ethos of forward-facing invention whilst championing the rich traditions of Northern brewing. Reflecting the individual nature of the communities they serve, our venues are wholesome, fun and laid back. Come and try us at source and taste what we’re all about.
Founded in 2013, we’ve always been in it for the long haul. Having a positive impact on our environment and community is integral to what we do. Our path to authentic sustainability will be far from straightforward, but there is nothing of greater importance to us. We want to set an example in how we do things; environmentally, socially and economically.
This place is in our blood, and we know how lucky we are to live here. For better or worse, Cumbria itself cuts to the very heart of what we do. Its landscapes, climate and communities shape us in a way that’s difficult to fully comprehend, unique and inimitable. We have always been of this place.
