Where is Base Camp Festival being held?The festival site occupies several fields on Gatesgarth Farm on the banks of Buttermere.

When does it start, and finish?Doors open at noon on Friday 4th July, and festival goers must vacate the site by noon on Monday 6th July.

What age do you have to be to attend the festival?The festival is open to anyone over the age of 18.

Can I bring my dog?Much as we love our canine friends, because the site is a working farm we are unable to allow dogs at the festival.

Is the site accessible?There are accessible toilets on site, as well as allocated parking spaces close to the festival entrance. The festival is held in grassy fields that are mostly flat, but there are no hard paths.

How will the festival limit its environmental impact?We will be minimising waste wherever possible, such as using reusable/biodegradable drinks cups in the bar, and recycling as much waste as possible.

What medical facilities are there on-site?We have a paramedic on site and an ambulance on-hand in case of emergencies.

What’s included in the ticket price?The festival pass allows you to camp onsite from Friday afternoon to Monday morning, and includes free activities on-site, music and talks, free showers, a goodie bag, t-shirt and raffle ticket.

What is NOT included in the ticket price?Car parking and campervan/roof tent pitches, technical sessions and food/drink are not included in the weekend pass and must be purchased separately.

Are tickets transferrable/refundable?Tickets are not refundable or transferrable, unless in exceptional circumstances – please see our Terms & Conditions for full details.

Do I need to show ID to receive my wristband?You will receive a weekend pass wristband on presentation of your ID and the booking confirmation barcode at the festival entrance.

Can I book a technical session if I don’t have a festival ticket?No, sessions are only available to those with a festival ticket. We have subsidised tickets to make them accessible to our Base Campers and cannot offer them to the general public at this price.

Will there be food available on site?There will be several food vendors on site including options for vegans and vegetarians, including breakfast van and a pizza van.

Can I bring my own food?Yes of course! You are welcome to bring and cook your own food. We just ask that this is kept in the immediate vicinity of your camping pitch and not brought into the main areas.

Can I bring a barbecue?Barbecues, including the disposable type, are not allowed on the festival site.

Is there a bar?Yes! We have teamed up with the local brewery, Fell Brewery, to offer a range of beers including our special Festival IPA. There will also be a range of wine, spirits and soft drinks, as well as no/low alcohol options.

Can I bring my own alcohol?No alcohol must be brought onto the site as the festival must support its local supplier, however bar prices will be very reasonable.

Is drinking water available on site?Yes there will be drinking water freely available at no charge for all festival goers.

Can I pay for food and drink by card?Yes, we will have card readers on site with Starlink connectivity. However, it does not hurt to have a bit of cash on hand in case of an outage.

How to get there?The easiest way to get to Gatesgarth Farm is by car, and there are two main routes in, from Cockermouth and Keswick. See more details here.

Is there public transportation?There are bus services from Keswick and Cockermouth, however please check days/times before travelling. See more details here.

Are there areas to walk/climb nearby?Yes there are numerous walking routes and crags to climb at in the areas surrounding the festival site, from a gentle walk around Buttermere, to challenging walking and climbing in the high fells. Click here for more info.

Is there mobile phone signal on-site?There is a mobile tower nearby, but signal on the site can be weak/sporadic at times. Please check your provider’s coverage maps.

When can we pitch our tent, and when do we need to pack up?The site is open from noon on Friday 4th July, and you can pitch your tent any time after this. You’ll need to be packed up and off the site by noon on Monday 7th July.

What facilities do you offer for campervans and roof tents?We have a separate field for campervans and roof tents but no filling or waste disposal facilities and no electrical hook-ups. The main toilets and showers are in the tent camping/main festival area a short distance away.

Can I bring an awning/gazebo?To give everyone as much space as possible, we ask campers not to put up gazebos. We do, however, have numerous covered areas around the festival. Campervan campers may use their awnings if weather permits.

Can I bring a motorhome?We cannot accommodate motorhomes unfortunately.

Are there showers and toilets on site?Yes there are showers and toilets on site, including accessible toilets.

I don’t climb/hillwalk. Can I still enjoy the festival?Yes there is still plenty to do, whether it’s a talk, film or workshop, live music or just enjoying the stunning situation of the festival.

I’ve booked a climbing session, but don’t have the necessary kit. Can I still participate?Instructors will supply essential equipment such as helmets and harnesses, though you should come with appropriate clothing and footwear.

Can we go swimming in Buttermere?Yes you are welcome to access and swim in Buttermere from the festival site, and there will be a lifeguard on duty during the hours of 9am to 6pm.

Can we bring our own kayak/canoe/SUP?You can bring your own kayak, canoe or SUP to the festival (no trailers please) but you won’t be able to launch it from the festival site due to National Trust restrictions. You are permitted to leave the festival site and access Buttermere from an alternative location, however, you must purchase a permit from one of the designated parking areas. Please be sure to follow biodiversity measures found here. We will also have a number of SUPs on site that you can launch from the festival site, along with wet suits and buoyancy aids.
